Bhagalpur is situated 220-Km south east of Patna and 410 Km North West of Calcutta. Because of its location it has always been strategically important for the state. The city is well known for its sericulture(manufacture of silk yarn).
Bodhgaya, in the district of Gaya, (not to be confused with the nearby town called Gaya) is the place where the Buddha is said to have reached understanding.
Gaya is a city of great significance to the Hindus, who traditionally come here for "pitra pind", to oblation to their ancestors for final resting of the soul. It is not to be confused with Bodhgaya.
Muzaffarpur, the Lychee City, is a short distance from popular tourist spots like Hajipur, Sonepur and Vaishali. The city was founded by Muzaffar Khan in the 18th century and hence the name.
90 kms south of Patna, Nalanda is famous as an ancient seat of learning. One can still see the ruins of the ancient university here.

Patna is the capital of the Indian province of Bihar. It was known as Patliputra in ancient times, when Bihar was called Magadh.
